Do you have a skill, talent, or interest you’d like to share with our community?

We are deeply grateful for and are in need of volunteers like you! North Texas Kids Outside (NTKO) was created by volunteers and continues to be run by volunteers. We know your time is valuable and we are thankful you’d consider spending it with us.

We need help with the following areas:

Kayak volunteers hang out on the water
  • Photography
  • Social Media // Newsletters // Website
  • Outdoor Skills (e.g., kayaking, fishing, geocaching, mountain biking)
  • Campsite Basics (e.g., tent setup and take-down)
  • Nature-Related Activity Leaders (e.g., outdoor cooking, nature art, knot tying, stargazing, hiking, science)
  • Community Service & Leadership-Related Activity Leaders

How will you benefit from volunteering?

We eat more than just hotdogs and chips!

This question is so important and, as fellow volunteers, essential to our work-life-volunteer balance. We hope that one of the areas in which we are requesting assistance can also help you:

  • skills and training
  • gain experience for a resume or application
  • complete a class project (like this video created by a volunteer)
  • community service hours
  • introduce you to career options in the outdoors (i.e., our leader started NTKO as a volunteer & because of it now works in her dream job!)
  • free food, free gear, free entry**

**As a volunteer, our leaders are also adamant about feeding you during our camping trips, providing free gear for you to borrow during our camping trips, and providing free entry during our camping trips – just to name a few.

More Who, What, Where, When, & Why:

We connect people with nature and the outdoors because we feel, in today’s world, time spent in nature is important for kids and adults alike. We also believe in putting quality time with friends and families back on our calendars.

Our community is composed of babies all the way up to grandparents. For our camping trips, volunteers must be 18 years or older (and no pets allowed) due to agreements with our community partner who furnishes our gear. For all other areas, we are looking for someone who’s responsible, trustworthy, passionate, and willing to help us get people outside. Volunteers must be capable of providing their own transportation at this time.

We accomplish our goals by hosting monthly events such as camping trips, visits to local outdoor spaces and parks, nature and community service activities, and visits to museums, zoos, or aquariums.

Our events take place in DFW. Our camping trips occur in state parks within a 1-2 hour drive of Denton.

We have about 4 camping trips per year, typically 2 in the spring and 2 in the fall. Our other events occur at least 1x a month. Check out our CALENDAR or BLOG to get an idea of the other types of events we’ve hosted.
